Carlos
Páez Vilaró got into the universe of the sculpture
freed from links to rythms and proportions. This he
did by drawing straight
in the space with steel lines, cables, bronze rods,
wooden pieces and whatever he could find at hand to
make his works.
It was not easy for him to jump the traditional laws
and texts in order to initiate his job. He remembered
of the primitive people’s
anxiety to express themselves either in stone, in wood
or in metal, and that gave him courage to cut steel
sheets, to join
wooden pieces and to use whatever material he could
find in his path. |

Sculptures
made out of scrap
Half century ago, Carlos Páez Vilaró penetrated in the
universe of the abandoned objects to recreate and update
them once again through his art.
All days long he visited the blacksmiths’ and the scrap
deposits, choosing the queerest pieces which would then be
used to
create his fantastic works of art.
Today, the same as yesterday, the artist continues with an
unbelievable generating energy, converting everything that
reaches
his hands into a
work of art, developing the same strength of former years.
